Comer Homes has had its plans approved a former HMRC site in Southend-on-Sea into a collection of homes and retail spaces.
The Southend-on-Sea City Council approved the plans that will transform the Alexander House site into five distinct areas comprising 557 new homes, including affordable housing, premium ground floor retail units and a public pocket park.
Comer Homes aims to rejuvenate the site into a proud landmark for the city while responding to the impact of climate change throughout the design process. As a result, the selection of building materials, glazing and planting will help to create a greener development.
By retaining the structure of the building, Comer Homes will minimise its carbon footprint for the project, while a sustainable drainage system will be implemented as part of the build.
Comer Homes will also focus on sustainability through landscaping improvements, implementing biodiversity net gain at the site and promoting greener transport options at the development.
Brian Comer, co-founder and chairman of Comer Homes, said: “Alexander House is a notable landmark on the city’s skyline, so we are delighted that our plans to transform the site into something everyone can be proud of is a momentous occasion.
“We undertook an extensive consultation programme to ensure that we could deliver the best possible scheme that will be the final piece to complete Victoria Avenue and create a spectacular gateway development for Southend-on-Sea. We look forward to beginning work onsite and moving a step closer to bringing this site back to life.”
