Lighthouse, the pioneering modular housebuilder, has become the newest member of Make UK Modular, continuing the rapid growth of the modular housing trade body.
Launched in December 2021, Make UK Modular is the voice of the UK’s modular housing manufacturers. Its 30 for 30 mission aims to enable the modular housing sector to deliver 30,000 modular homes a year by 2030.
Make UK Modular’s recently published 2022 Impact Report, ‘Make UK Modular Y1 Impact Report’ showed that in its first year of operation, the trade body met with more than 20 MPs and peers to substantially increase political awareness of modular housing. The trade body also grew its membership by 60% and published the ground-breaking report ‘Greener, Better, Faster: Modular’s Role in Solving the Housing Crisis’.
Lighthouse (IDMH Limited) manufactures high-quality houses and apartments on production lines in its facility in Sheffield. It is a fully volumetric modular manufacturer using timber – a natural, sustainable, versatile and durable material for construction.
The rapidly expanding manufacturer employs over 100 people at its Sheffield facility and its regional office in Warrington.
Steve Cole, director of Make UK Modular, said: “We are delighted to welcome Lighthouse to Make UK Modular. Lighthouse’s low carbon timber-based system is precisely the sort of innovative, sustainable, product modular housing can deliver at scale.”
“Lighthouse’s inclusion on the recently announced OSHA Framework highlights the ambition of the business and its strong growth potential following delivery on schemes around the UK over the last two years. The modular industry needs ambitious and innovative businesses like Lighthouse to thrive. I, and all our members, are already working closely with their team.”
Tom White, CEO of Lighthouse, added: “Joining Make UK Modular is an important step for Lighthouse as we continue to scale our innovative business. With modular housebuilding taking an increasingly important role in the UK, we are committed to advancing the delivery of sustainable, high-quality homes, whilst accelerating the pace of development to help address the nation’s housing needs.”
