Three North Bay companies will share in $1.8 million in provincial funds to help further develop their operations.
On Dec. 16, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli announced the funds would come from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.
“Our government continues to foster a strong future in the North by supporting economic growth and job creation,” Fedeli said in a news release. “These businesses play a critical role in the northern economy, supporting the community and contributing to the province’s prosperity as a whole.”
Wrmth, which designs and manufactures heated outdoor furniture, is receiving the largest allotment of $1,344,493. The funds will be used to commercialize its flagship product — the smart Muskoka chair — and develop software to allow users to control the chair using a mobile device.
One Red Maple Inc. will receive $483,495 to enhance its web-based technology. The company developed a browser extension for smartphones, tablets and computers that lets users quickly search, locate and buy products from locally owned stores instead of from larger big-box retailers and online corporations.
Finally, Cuna Railway Innovation Inc. will receive $67,607 to purchase specialized equipment and train staff to expand its range of services. The company serves the railway industry, providing inspection, maintenance and snow clearing.
