The latest research in occupational health and safety will be explored during CROSHCon 2025, slated to take place in January.
Held annually, the one-day event features presentations from researchers at the Centre for Research in Occupational Safety and Health (CROSH), the Sudbury-based organization that focuses on occupational health and safety research geared toward Northern Ontario workers and industries.
The event will take place online from 8:30 to 3 p.m. and feature 11 presentations on the latest research on vibration and ergonomics, health and safety training, and field evaluation.
The day’s keynote address will be given by Dr. Aaron Thompson, an associate professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, a physician at St. Michael’s Hospital, and the chief medical officer with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board.
He’ll speak about the management of hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), a condition characterized by soft tissue damage in the arms, hands and fingers that impacts workers who are exposed to repeated vibration in the workplace.
Other presentations will focus on how virtual reality can enhance safety training for working at height, heat stress evaluation amongst underground mine workers, and using machine learning to enhance worker safety.
