Sabi and Minespider have announced a strategic partnership to bring blockchain-enabled transparency and ESG compliance to African commodity supply chains, focusing on critical battery minerals bound for OECD markets.
Sabi, a technology company, providing enabling supply chain infrastructure across sub-Saharan Africa is partnering with Minespider, a technology company offering a traceability platform and digital product passports, to launch blockchain-enabled traceability for African commodities bound for OECD markets, setting new standards for ethical sourcing. Sabi’s ESG-guided approach tracks each product’s journey – from origin to export –integrating data on environmental, social, climate, nature, and human rights impacts. This initiative embeds compliance with local laws, Sabi’s ESG policies, and global standards like OECD, Fairtrade, and Fairmined, along with independent audits and ratings ensuring transparency. Sabi’s framework rates compliance for transactions and evaluates aggregators and intermediaries supplying to refiners and downstream buyers, destigmatising African supply chains for minerals like lithium, copper, Monazite, and agricultural goods like cocoa and cashew. With Minespider’s blockchain technology enabling QR-coded digital passports, Sabi is driving traceability, sustainability, and transparency across the global commodities landscape.“Climate change represents the defining challenge of our time. Meeting this challenge requires widespread electrification across all sectors of the economy, which in turn demands an unprecedented scale of critical mineral production and recycling – including copper, lithium, nickel, and rare earths. To ensure that source communities benefit from this sustained and growing demand, we must bring transparency to both the ESG standards and traceability measures in mining and trading operations. This transparency should track not only absolute performance but also demonstrate continuous improvement over time. We are thrilled to partner with Minespider toward achieving these objectives,” said Ademola Adesina, Co-Founder and President of Sabi.“There are more and more businesses focused on leveraging sustainable practices into global trade, and Sabi is one of them. We are thrilled to partner with Sabi to bring transparency to their supply chain. By implementing Minespider’s traceability platform, Sabi can ensure that the origin and journey of minerals are trustworthy. Besides, the software will help to create more transparency across the entire supply chain and communicate the key ESG data that is more and more frequently required by international regulations.” added Nathan Williams, Founder and CEO of Minespider.
