Amtico launches its first lower-carbon flooring range

Reading Time: 2 minutes

British flooring manufacturer, Amtico, launches its first bio-attributed luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring. Providing a lower-carbon flooring option, Amtico Bio is available on select ranges across its portfolio.
Amtico Bio is manufactured using more PVC derived from renewable biomass-based raw materials. As part of Amtico’s commitment to become more sustainable, Used Cooking Oil (UCO) and Crude Tall Oil (CTO) from sustainably managed forests for the paper pulping industry are now its two sources of biomass. These biomass sources fully replace crude oil as the feedstock in the manufacturing of its bio-attributed PVC resin, with the CO2 emissions released in making bio-attributed PVC resin reduced by more than 90%.
Amtico Bio is chemically and physically identical to the company’s standard LVT and works on the ‘Mass Balance’ principle. For each order, Amtico sources the required amount of bio-attributed PVC which is then incorporated into existing manufacturing processes.
The process is independently audited by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) and the customer is provided with a sustainability declaration to guarantee all requirements have been met.
Commenting on Amtico Bio, Mark Healy, Amtico head of UK national residential sales, said: “Specifying Amtico Bio brings real carbon savings. We are proud to have expanded the available products Amtico Bio can now be specified alongside, ensuring housebuilders can choose from a bigger range of woods and stones. This is an exciting step in our sustainability journey as we look to transition away from fossil fuel dependency and create flooring fit for the future. As our Bio collection can be traced and audited, this gives our customers complete peace of mind that their floors have been manufactured with a lower carbon footprint.”
Bellway is the first UK housebuilder to offer this new product as a customer addition across its parquet range from February 2024.
Maria Seed, group sales and marketing director at Bellway, commented: “At Bellway, our aim is to build beautiful, expertly crafted homes which meet the needs of today and consider the demands of the future. Our sustainable approach to business means we have industry-leading carbon reduction targets, but can only achieve these with the help of our partners. Amtico Bio is an innovative alternative that uses bio-attributed PVC, which produces 90% less CO2 emissions compared to fossil fuel-derived PVC, whilst still delivering impeccable quality flooring. We are confident our customers will be very keen to find out more about this new range from Amtico.”
